Palizada

Palizada owes its name and fame to red dye wood, also called logwood, brazilwood and Campeche wood. For many years this beautiful magical town was the main site of logging precious woods that were transported down the Palizada River and then shipped to Europe.

From this river you can reach the village by boat. The village appears before your eyes between the mangroves, with a palette of yellows, blues and greens on the facades of their Victorian-style houses with French-style tile roofs. Explore its small streets, where trade bustles and artisans carve curious objects out of wood. Inside the beautiful buildings are restaurants that prepare their own unique dishes, serving delicious fish and fish roe.

Palizada is located in the middle of a major hydrological area formed by the confluence of the deltas of several rivers and a wide landscape of lush floodplains that overlook the Laguna de Términos.
