The 11 municipalities offer the possibility to admire beautiful and exotic species, as the “Carmen” at the bird Island; or in Palizada, where you can watch a bird species called, the Martin Pescador Azul (American Pygmy Kingfisher), and the protected natural area of Petenes, covered by mangrove, which is home to hundreds of bird species, as it is Biosphere Reserve of the Calakmul.
So lets start a photographic hunting. We can watch a lot of endemic and migratory aquatic birds. The natural scenario is amazing from all over the coast of the Natural Protected area of Patenes, Biosphere Reserve of the Calakmul.
It is notable the colored tones of the Martin Pescador Pigmeo (American Pygmy Kingfisher) or the white and bright heron, and the striking tones of the ibis or flamingos.
Besides, we will find grays, pelicans, egrets, cormorants, and many others. In high tide, we can explore the mangrove swamp channels through the rivers seeking the Carpenter bird or the dotted herons and also the beauty of the mangrove; and during low tides, we could watch the landing of big heron, grays and pelican flocks on marine grazing lands for feeding.
