Located 65 km south of Campeche City, Chakan Putum (original name) founded by the itzaes, one of the most important lineages from the Mayans. In 1517 the “Cacique” (Chief) Moch Couh defeated in battle the Spanish “conquistadores” (conquerors) as a result the place became known as Bad fight bay.
