
Mayan name which means “painted vault” or “great painted turtle” it is part of an area located at the east from Campeche. The first evidence of human settlement on the site goes back to 500 to 50 BC.
The city has a surface area of approximately 1.32 km2 where hillocks can be seen distributed corresponding to the pyramid foundations, platforms, vaulted building and chambers. The only construction that has been explored is the building A which has several chambers distributed lengthwise and three towers with simulated temples on top.
It is 145 km, 2:20 minutes San Francisco de Campeche City.
To exit the city, take Avenida Gobernadores until reaching the intersection to the highway, go straight; take the exit to Castamay through the highway known as “via Antigua to Merida” (old route to Merida)
Drive 86 km and you will reach the town of Hopelchen, seat of the municipality where you will find the Church of San Antonio, a Franciscan style construction.
Bring comfortable clothing and a hat.
