
It was a huge City with more than 10 ceremonial squares. It is located in the municipality of Hopelchen and is Mayan name means “In front of the wall”. It is a rectangular construction with three staircases, with 40 rooms; stone walls clean cut and lateral temples with a garnished base with columns and composed frames. We can find as well the old barracks, juego de pelota (old ball game), the south plaza and some estelas (stelas).
Was the Regional capital and the most important Mayan City in the whole Chenes region. Its name means "old walls" there is some evidence that the first inhabitants came around 300-250 b.c. subsequently it became a political entity of great importance in between 550 and 950 a.c. The decadence was probably in the years 800 a.c to 1000 a.c.

From San Francisco de Campeche City has 137 km approx 1:45 minutes ride.
HOW TO GET THERE
To leave town take Governadores avenue until the highway intersection; take the exit to Castamai also known as via Antigua a Merida. 86 km after you reach the town of Hopelchen which is the head of the county under the same name, in this place you can find the Franciscan Church of San Antonio. Going 2 km further in Merida’s direction you can find a right exit in the direction of Arqueological zone “Santa Rosa Xtampac”.
Further 35 km and you can reach the site.
