
Its name comes from a herbaceous plant which can be found abundantly and is called “Cola de gato”. The place is located at the southern part of Campeche City and had its peak on the late classic period (500-800 BC). The first human settlements date from 400 BC from the Preclassic late period. Based on the evidence its peak was from (600-800 AC) and its decadence came on the early Post classic on the year 1200.

HOW TO GET THERE
The archeological zone of Xpujil is seat of the Municipality of Calakmul when you reach the city head to the Xpujil-Opelchen road which is about 500 meters you will find the archaeological site.
